After five years of operations in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, Ramah Sports Academy (RSA) is moving west! We are excited to announce that RSA will operate this summer in Northern California, on the magnificent campus of the Monterey Bay Academy on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, in partnership with Ramah Galim. Not only will this provide RSA campers with an outstanding facility that is being used exclusively by Ramah each summer, RSA campers will also join over 180 Ramah campers for social, recreational, and religious programming outside of their sports majors.

Ramah Galim, founded in 2016 as the second Ramah specialty camp, offers 2-, 4- and 6-week specialty camp options in Ocean Exploration (including surfing and scuba diving), Theater Arts, and Adventure Sports.

New this summer, campers at Ramah Galim can choose to participate in RSA programming, majoring in basketball or soccer, with electives available in baseball, tennis, swimming, surfing, and much more. The excellence in sports instruction that has characterized RSA from the onset will continue, with outstanding coaches, beautiful facilities, and cooler and dry summer weather, ideal for athletics.

Although RSA had planned to re-open this summer at the NYMA high school campus in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, Ramah Galim hosting RSA will provide the critical mass necessary for the high-quality Ramah experience that our campers and families are expecting.

By combining RSA with Ramah Galim, RSA campers will benefit from outstanding dorms and recreational facilities, a wonderful thriving Ramah community of campers, with over 75 staff members including senior educators and administrators specializing in camper care, all under the direction of Camp Director Geoff Menkowitz. Geoff, who has over 15 years of directing experience, successfully led the community of Ramah Darom in Georgia for more than a decade before moving to Ramah Galim.

We are thrilled that RSA Assistant Director Alex Rubin will continue to lead the RSA program, bringing coaching staff and many of the best practices from RSA to Ramah Galim.

We look forward to keeping you updated about this new partnership between RSA and Ramah Galim, and to a wonderful summer of growth for all of our campers and staff.

D’var Torah Bo

D’var Torah by Rabbi Dave Levy: Director, Ramah Sports Academy During the Presidential Inauguration, I heard a sound that stopped me in my tracks. There was a lot to take in, pageantry, ceremony, history, but it was one little sound that got my attention. In the middle of everything, the microphones picked up a small […]

Breishit and the Tree of Knowledge

Jewish tradition likes to speak of two different types of mitzvot, or commandments. On the one hand there are mishpatim, injunctions that make sense and are rooted in reason. Absent the gift of Torah, individuals and communities hopefully would have figured out that prohibitions against murder and theft are necessary to create a civil society. […]
